Day 18: A Time When You Felt Passionate and Alive

There's actually a story behind this one that I must relate to you if you are to understand. So relax and prepare yourself.

Y'all know that the song Defying Gravity from Wicked is my favorite song in the whole universe right? Well it wasn't always. All of my friends had the Wicked soundtrack on their iPods and I knew a few of the songs but they weren't really a big deal to me.

Then one day I woke up and had a song in my head that I'd never heard before in my life. I Googled the lyrics and discovered the song was called Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked but the version in my head, one sung by a guy, couldn't be found anywhere. So I had my cousin see if he could find out if there was a guy who sang this song and he discovered a version sung by Chris Colfer (another one of my heroes. I'll explain why someday).

And so my love of Wicked began. I started to teach myself the song Defying Gravity but I could never hit the high F at the end.

My passionate and alive moment came when I first hit the high F.

I was in my grandparents apartment singing because everyone was gone and I could be loud. Without thinking about it, I hit the note at the very end of the song. I stopped singing. First word that came to my mind: GLORY!

I was unable to hit the note the next few times that I tried but it didn't matter. That one accomplishment catapulted me to infinity and beyond.

And now I can hit the note every time.

  1. Ah!! I so, so understand this! I LOVE being home alone, and listening to the Wicked soundtrack, and just belting it out! Because you definitely have to be home alone to belt out Wicked songs ;) Hitting that note is definitely a fun accomplishment! ;D
